Marlinspike Sailor by Harvey Garrett Smith,

Marlinspike Sailor by Harvey Garrett Smith,
Hervey Garrett Smith was the foremost marine illustrator of the 1950s and 1960s, and his wonderful drawings of traditional ropework quickly propelled "The Marlinspike Sailor to cult classic status when it was published in 1956. With the addition of a section on modern, synthetic rope in the 1970s, its popularity has continued undiminished to this day. It teaches a few basic knots--the bowline, sheet bend, and rolling hitch, among others--and splices in three-strand and braided rope. But its real business is decorative rope and canvaswork--the traditional arts of the sailor--and here it has no equal. For a rope mat, a rope ladder, a sea chest, a ditty bag, a canvas bucket, a mast boot, and the best-looking rope fenders or heaving line in the marina, this is the book of choice.

This may consist of one child twirling and jumping the rope, or at least three children taking turns, two of which twirl the rope while one jumps.

Splicing (rope) - Splicing involves using the strands of a rope to make an alteration, be it to join two lengths of rope together more cleanly than tying a knot or doubling a rope back onto itself to form an eye (a bight or loop) or an end that will not fray. To splice a rope the strands at the end of the rope in question are prised apart and then woven into the strands at another point, or into the strands of a ...

Bondage rope harness - A bondage rope harness, sometime also referred to as a bondage web or rope web, is a bondage technique involving the tying of an intricate structure of rope around the body in a complex web-like fashion. Similar in effect to a leather bondage harness, it is not in itself normally used to bind a person, but can be used as a securing point for other bondage techniques.

Rope Dart - The rope dart is basically a long rope with a metal dart tied to one end. This was an ideal weapon in ancient times because the user can throw the dart out at a long range target and uses the rope to pull it back.

Braid Suffix - Braid Suffix Braid theory - In topology, braid theory is an abstract geometric theory studying the everyday braid concept, and some generalisations. The idea is that braids can be organised into groups, in which the group operation is 'do the first braid on a set of strings, and then follow it with a second on the twisted strings'. Braid statistics - In mathematics and theoretical physics, braid statistics is a generalization of the statistics of bosons and fermions based on the concept of ...
