Braid Fishtail
Braiding Fine Leather: Techniques of the Australian Whipmakers by David W. Morgan, Designed to help the beginning leather braider acquire basic skills in a straightforward manner, this book shows readers how to braid simple projects fairly quickly. With close attention to detail and a little practice using the methods described here, novices can produce attractive and enduring items from either precut lace or from a skin or side of leather. Leather braiding was developed in Australia in whipmaking shops. The craft had been carried to Australia by thongmakers from England, who were familiar with the thongs used on finely braided carriage whips. Kangaroo leather, one of the finest leathers available for braiding, provided the material for high-quality work, and a large and discriminating market in Australia led to improvements in techniques. Using these highly refined techniques and providing complete instructions and clear closeup photographs showing each step in the process, David Morgan has created an excellent book for those who want to learn to braid leather. A metallurgical engineer by training and occupation, in the 1960s Morgan became interested in Australian braided work made from kangaroo hide. With his wife he set up a part-time mail-order business selling a variety of Australian imports. In the 1980s he made the whips for the Indiana Jones movies, and he has been making them ever since. By 1990 he had abandoned metallurgy to run the mail-order business full time. He is now following an interest in the historical aspects of cattle-working whips.
Plaited Glory: For Colored Girls Who've Considered Braids, Locks, and Twists by Lonnice Brittenum Bonner, Lonnice Brittenum Bonner told thousands of black women what not to do with their hair in her first book, Good Hair: For Colored Girls Who've Considered Weaves When the Chemicals Became Too Ruff. Now she'll tell women what to do with their hair - braid it, twist it, lock it, and crimp it. In Plaited Glory you'll learn the basics of maintaining locks, twists, and braids, while you get the lowdown on everything from choosing braiding salons to tips for parents with style-hungry daughters. You'll also find out why so many women put up with marathon braiding sessions and why they are willing to pay big money for them. So if you're still wondering if you'll be able to get a job while sporting braids, locks, or twists, or be doomed to stand on a street corner with a sign that reads "I'll work for food and a home relaxer kit", you'll be reassured. Braids certainly haven't stopped Senator Carol Moseley-Braun from addressing colleagues in Congress, and a short-cropped natural with a flirty fringe adorned former NASA astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison. As always, you'll laugh out loud at Bonner's stories about everything from Afros and Stevie's People, to Peaches and Herb and Solid Gold, while learning how to care for your braided, natural, texturized, or chemically relaxed hair.
Braid theory - In topology, braid theory is an abstract geometric theory studying the everyday braid concept, and some generalisations. The idea is that braids can be organised into groups, in which the group operation is 'do the first braid on a set of strings, and then follow it with a second on the twisted strings'. Fishtail-Center gauge - Fishtail-Center gauges, the left image is a fishtail gauge, the right image is a center gauge. Braid statistics - In mathematics and theoretical physics, braid statistics is a generalization of the statistics of bosons and fermions based on the concept of braid group. Braid-breaker - The braid breaker is a term for one of the best filters for preventing TVI. It is the case that in many cases of TeleVision Interferance caused by a high field strength of a nearby HF transmitter that the aerial downlead plugged into the back of the TV acts as a longwire antenna or as a simple vertical element.
